The Saturday Market at Rebus Works Kicks off Spring/Summer Season with Charity Event for BackPack Buddies BackPack Buddies Food and Funds Drive Opens a Season of Doing Good for Local Causes RALEIGH, NC:  On Saturday April 12, 2014 The Saturday Market at Rebus Works, the local farmers market situated at 301 Kinsey St. in Historic Boylan Heights, will kick off its Spring/Summer season with their BackPack Buddies Food and Fund Drive to benefit Interfaith Food Shuttle’s BackPack Buddies Program.  The event seeks to collect healthy, nonperishable food items and raise money for this important program which provides backpacks full of nutritious meals and snacks to children in need during weekends and holidays when they cannot benefit from school provided meals. “Most of us look forward to our weekends as a time to relax and enjoy ourselves,” says Julie DeSena, Market Manager, “But to a child living in a food-insecure home, the weekend can be a time of uncertainty and ultimately, hunger.  BackPack Buddies bridges the gap for these kids and it is an essential program for many children in our community.” This event is a part of a new initiative for The Saturday Market known as Second Saturday for Charity.  Each second Saturday of the season, running from April 12th- November 22nd the market will highlight a different local charity in order to raise awareness of its cause and help with its goal.  Plans in the works for the season include benefits for the American Red Cross, The Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, Wiley Elementary and A Note in the Pocket. The Backpack Buddies Food and Funds Drive at the Saturday Market will include raffle prizes donated by local businesses.  Any donation of food or money earns the contributor a raffle ticket giving them a chance to win prizes including a market basket with local goodies and gift certificates to local businesses.  “The raffle is a fun incentive and the willingness of our community members to donate items toward it shows how much they care” says DeSena.  “But the ultimate incentive lies in taking tangible steps to do something about childhood hunger.  These kids count and we can all do our small part to nourish them.” The Saturday Market at Rebus Works’ Spring/Summer hours are 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  Food donations may be made during the event at the BackPack Buddies table or at Rebus Works ahead of the event.  Cash donations with tax receipt can be accepted at:
